How Doc Edge sharpened up their printing spend

Doc Edge Festival

Soar’s holistic view of the print process has delivered some serious benefits for the organisers of the Doc Edge Festival, starting with making their marketing budget go (a lot) further.

Now in its 13th year, the Doc Edge Festival features more than 70 stunning films from around the globe, covering everything from pop culture to politics. Printed materials are key to promoting the events and driving ticket sales.

Soar is a long-standing sponsor of the festival and this year our team saw we could make an even bigger impact by assessing the entire process for their promotional collateral. The results of our review were reduced costs, improved efficiency, superb quality and greater reach to maximise ticket sales.

How Soar helped the Doc Edge Festival

Stuart Shepherd led our team in making some simple changes that made a big difference for Doc Edge. “It started with adjusting the size of one of the key printed materials – the programme – into a mini book. It saved cost and gives a far bigger impact.”

Mailouts are an essential part of the promo programme. This year, our team transformed the program distribution via a custom printed envelope that turned a labour-intensive process into a slick, automated mail-ready solution. What’s more, it achieved a discounted rate by meeting NZ Post’s stringent SOA standards. We’re also a familiar face at Bauer Media Group, making it easy to print and insert a leaflet into a number of their magazines.

Transforming a programme booklet into online ticket sales

Doc Edge’s 64-page programme is one of the key printed materials for the festival. Using Soar’s direct-to-mobile digital publishing platform, Partica, this once offline-only document is now also an online resource. It contains over 100 links for people to book their tickets on the spot using their mobile device.
