When artisan food company Two Islands requested a quote for label printing from Soar, they got much more than a costing. Our label specialist Chris Agius went above and beyond to liaise with the product packing company and identify cost-saving alternatives.
Owned and operated by sisters – Julia and Libby Matthews - Two Islands produces a premium protein powder based on pea protein. It tastes great and is aimed at a niche market that wants a soy-free vegan protein source for smoothies. Demand for Two Islands’ protein is increasing daily, as the company’s social media campaigns spread through the health-conscious market.
On the lookout for a new label printer
Julia and Libby approached Soar about label printing after a less-than-perfect experience with another printer. While they knew a lot about producing premium lifestyle food products, their knowledge of label printing and application was light. This situation was soon remedied by Soar’s digital label specialist Chris Agius.
“Before we put a costing together for Two Islands, we consulted with the company doing their product filling and labelling. They confirmed the best sizes for the pack labels, as well as roll direction for the printing output”, says Chris.
Roll direction refers to how the label needs to be positioned on the roll for successful application. It’s not relevant for labels that are applied by hand, but it’s crucial for labels applied by machine.
Technically-correct colour-matched labels
“Doing this background work allowed us to present Two Islands with cost-saving alternative approaches to label printing, as well as technical assurance that Soar’s printed outputs would work perfectly for the pack filling company. We were also able to offer accurate colour matching to their brand palette, using our proven process for ensuring FOGRA 29 ISO colour consistency standards.”
Two Islands awarded the printing project to Soar and labels were swiftly printed on a synthetic substrate and finished with a matte laminate. The labelled pack looks every bit as premium as the protein powder within.
