Bespoke printing for design agency's 'naughty and nice' Christmas cookies
Challenge: Every year leading packaging design company Coats Design says 'Merry Christmas' to clients in a unique and creative way. For Christmas 2014, they designed an unforgettable 'naughty and nice' Christmas cookie gift. The gift had two parts: one over-the-top chocolate cookie (naughty) and a more conservative cinnamon cookie (nice). Each cookie was separately boxed and the two boxes were held together with an outer sleeve. Before delivery, Coat's people were able to 'personalise' the outer sleeve for each recipient using gold or silver spray paint. This final creative step ensured no two packs were exactly alike. Aware that fabulous design work requires equally fabulous printing, Matt Grantham of Coats Design chose Soar Printing to bring the gift packaging to life.
Response: Coat's gift pack components featured die cuts, spot colour and required special stocks. Natalie Hunter of Soar Printing recognised that a combination of offset and digital printing was the best way forward. She also assisted with technical design refinements and identified the ideal stocks - Sirio Pearl Polar Dawn for the sleeve and Courier Laid Ultra White for the cookie boxes. Soar's 'CD' sheet fed Heidelberg press handled the cookie box printing, an HP Indigo 5600 press printed the outer sleeve, and die cutting was completed using the Heidelberg SB cylinder die cutter.
“Soar helped us to achieve a high quality result within a limited budget. Natalie helped us to find exactly the right stocks and provided technical expertise that assisted the design process. It was great having a print partner who cared as much as we did about a beautiful outcome.”
