Te Kuia Moko oil-on-canvas Prints
Needs: Te Kuia Moko is a collection of 34 original oil-on-canvas portraits of kuia with traditional moko, painted by Prague-born artist Harry Sangl in the early 1970s. In 1994 they were put in the care of the Kuia Moko Trust, however they vanished following a public exhibition. Their current location is a total mystery. Fortunately, quality photographs of the paintings made it feasible to recreate the collection as canvas art reproductions. Soar Arts was honoured to be chosen to handle printing for this important project, which enabled an exhibition at Depot Artspace in Devonport.
Response: The Te Kuia Moko reprints were produced on Soar Print’s new HPR2000 flat-bed large-format digital press, which is revolutionising production for art prints, display materials and signage. Soar Arts also reprinted The Blue Privilege, a rare hardcover book that features all of Harry Sangl’s kuia paintings.

“I was so excited that Soar Print was able to reproduce these canvases for us. Stuart Shepherd of Soar Arts was very passionate about the project. He also managed to secure an original copy of the book The Blue Privilege secondhand, which allowed him to organise a limited edition reprinting of the book right here in Auckland.”
