Soar Printing partners with FINZ because we’re experts at making print budgets go further and do more. We’re also a goldmine of great ideas because we have years of experience with appeal collateral, personalised direct mail, branding, brochures and signage, so.
To help not-for-profit organisations become more sustainable and make print budgets go further, we’ve developed the ‘Future Print’ assessment. It’s an information-gathering process that allows us to see how you’re doing things at the moment, so that we can respond with a plan that saves you money and reduces your carbon footprint.

Branding tips for FINZ members
Give your reception a brand injection: We helped the Auckland Kindergarten Association apply some remarkable brand imagery to their foyer and reception areas. AKA had been working with a design agency to develop new branding imagery; the outcome was an imaginative illustration that depicts ‘a children’s garden’. Soar came up with the idea of printing the illustration on repositionable wallpaper using our HP62500 large-format latex press. The result is absolutely show-stopping. If AKA ever moves premises, the branding wallpaper can be peeled off and applied again.
Get your signage on-brand: Recently we worked with Presbyterian Support Northern (PSN) to create new exterior signage for every PSN branch from Taupo north. Signs were printed directly onto aluminium composite material (ACM) and brand colours were carefully matched using our ISO 12647-2 certified colour process control expertise. We were able to offer PSN a total solution, including implementation through our nationwide signage installer network.
Maintain quality standards for your brand: While outright luxury print jobs aren’t often appropriate for a not-for-profit organisation, maintaining quality standards through use of good stock and high-definition print methods helps you to look professional and well-organised.
Set up print ordering processes that ensure brand compliance: Many NFPs have a multitude of offices and sites, which can lead to the production of print material that isn’t brand compliant. By using Soar’s Business system you can control who can order what, and templates ensure that printed items will always match your brand’s design and colour standards. Ebusiness reporting functions also make it easy to monitor print activity across your organisation. When Presbyterian Services Northern switched to Ebusiness they freed up a lot of time for other tasks, while also tightening control over their brand.
Marketing tips for FINZ members
Personalised newsletters that call everyone by name: Digital printing versioning has been around for a while, but it’s still not commonly used for newsletters. By feeding an Xcel database into an HP Indigo printer, we can change out names, addresses, text and images.
Use your print supplier as your appeal coordinator: Materials for Plunket’s annual appeal – buckets, envelopes, stickers and posters – are distributed directly from Soar Printing. E-ordering with automatic distribution is an amazing saving of time, energy and stress. It’s a service we provide for all sorts of businesses, but it’s particularly handy for organisations that run nationwide appeals and events.
Print a PURL (personalised URL) on letters: When you’re asking for help from supporters, the inclusion of a PURL within the letter is a great way to engage their interest. When they enter the PURL address in their browser, they’ll go directly to a web page that’s personalised for them. It can deliver educational information, an online survey or stories that encourage donation. The variable data digital printers at Soar can handle PURLs with ease – every letter can be personalised by name, address and PURL.
Get your ‘thank you’ labels printed digitally: With digital label printing you get all the advantages of digital printing - shorter lead times, cost-effective short runs, personalisation, rich colour - plus a couple more. The digital label printer we use prints onto rolls, which collectors can wear around their wrist like a bangle. It makes the process of collecting a donation and issuing a ‘thank you’ sticker so much easier, especially for collectors who are on their feet. You can also print several different kinds of label on a single roll. You can change out messages, colours and images without having to print a whole roll of each type.
In-house automated appeal envelopes: We have a Herzog & Heymann mailing machine, which can fold, glue, perforate and form appeal envelopes automatically, to save time and money. It’s not new technology, but it’s highly specialised and not often available in-house at a general printer.
Printing QR codes that lead people to your website: You’re probably familiar with QR codes by now – square things that look like a bar code that’s been through the mincer. Anyone with a smartphone can get a free QR code reader that lets them scan a QR code on a letter, poster or ad. Scanning a QR code leads to an automatic action – you’ll go to a message, a website, an entry form, a survey, a donation form or educational information. There are hundreds of ways to use QR codes in the NFP sector.
Use latex ink for material that needs to look good for longer: Latex ink lasts longer and takes more punishment than standard ink. By printing with latex ink on a durable substrate, you can create advertising posters and exhibition pull-up banners that will be serviceable for longer. Our latex printer is also great for promotional displays, light box backlit films, billboards and wall murals. It can even print two-sided.
